Layla is due to join the world in February 2015 and has been diagnosed in-utero with Pulmonary Atresia with intact ventricular septum (Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome). Earlier in the mother’s pregnancy, Layla had cystic hygroma which has since resolved. She is, however, being monitored for its return and has had multiple chromosome tests related to this, which have all come back negative. Three open-heart surgeries stand in Layla’s path, starting only days after birth. The mother was put on temporary disability by her OB and has been out of work for months. The financial and emotional struggles are staggering as they walk the journey of a heart family.
